Campbell Park and Newlands, Milton Keynes:
Adrian Morrow Architects were one of six practices invited by Milton Keynes Development Partnership to present ideas for the development of sites at Campbell Park and Newlands located to both sides of the Grand Union canal. Our scheme was of low density and comprised 130 units of mostly residential accommodation with a central “fishing village” visitor destination located directly on the axis of Avebury Boulevard. Here units for shops, bars and cafés could be located – the axis being terminated by a residential tower. The heart of the fishing village included canal laybys for canal boats. Inspired by Accordia in Cambridge and the Rendlesham housing in Woolstones, each house type included flexible floor space with internal galleries overlooking the living and dining areas. The site layout included new footbridges crossing the canal and a “Baumturm” or tree tower resembling a large pine cone to be constructed out of laminated timber.
